First blog Equiano

In August 19 of 1791 a free African American astronomer, mathematician, surveyor, an almanac author, and farmer named Benjamin Banneker hand wrote and send a letter to a very important and intellectual man. During that time this man was the United States secretary of state his named was Thomas Jefferson. The main point of the letter is to ask Jefferson to act upon the African American rights. Stating that instead of it being human right it is a natural right. Banneker uses to his defense to of liberty being a natural right his religious believes. The reason why every human has naturals right to liberty is because " that one universal father hath given being to us all; and that he hath not only made us all of one flesh, ... afforded us all the same sensation"(Banneker 1). Instead of Banneker saying God he says father as a symbolic way to say family; everyone being brothers and sisters. He also says flesh which stands for the same body parts and are made of the same frame. The sensation stand for alike feeling or emotions.
In The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equino, or Gustavus Vassa, the African  the reader is presented with  Equino a young boy who just happens to be kidnapped and experience the events that occur during a slave trade because of his origin. He was first placed into a family that treated him like a slave however, this family also gave him a certain freedom that not many slaves have had the opportunity to experience. However, because of an accidentally killing a chicken, he had to run away out of fear. Because he was not familiar with his surrounding he was not certain of what to do so he went back to his"home", where they had decided to sell him. The majority of the story takes place at sea. At sea is where he has to experience cruelty and the harshness of people dehumanizing other human beings.
The fact is that one of humans characteristics is wanting more, is the feeling of having everything the easy way. The reason many African Americans suffered was because even though human beings can tell the difference between right and wrong they still can choose to do wrong . The masters usually white peopele don't care who they are hurting. Slaves owner understand that they were getting money and by having people working for free. They saw slaves as objects that they to owned. A slave was basically money in the form a human being body. Another very qualifying reason is that even though everyone is made the same way and are in some type of way similar to each other, people outcast and segregate themselves based upon differences. The fact that someone is a different color, race, size, age etc. Makes them want to critise certain people because they believe they are better then other people.

  2. Dear Melina, For the first paragraph the structure look well summarized, letter to Jefferson from Benjamin you gave me a clear understanding of the letter and the argument that are being made was clear. Your direct quote and citation is well cited. I am a little concern about your second paragraph because of the context, you are writing to a audience which means (Who am I writing to?)and as a audience I don't know where Equiano is coming from, if you made him up or what text, passage, book he comes from. IN the third paragraph you mentioned "they" who are they, i recommend to introduce or say who are they at least one time so that we can understand every time you say "they" will be (slaves, Equiano, whites etc let the audience know who you talking about. Other than that Your work is pretty good.
