second blog The contradiction of Andrew Goodman

In the memoirs from When I was a Slave by Norman R Yetman, the memoir that got my attention for a very interesting contradiction was Andrew Goodman. A man who got lucky and did not have to suffer as much as many other slaves. He stated "I was born in slavery and think them days was better for the niggers than the day we see now"(Yetman 52). He was interview at the age of 97 in Dallas, Texas. Goodman was aloud to play with the masters kids when he was young and also eat with them. His master Marse Bob also made sure that he always had enough food. This is contradicting because many people fought for the better life for a slave but yet he believes they should of left it how it was. This people believed that the best life for a slave was for them to have freedom, and not be owned by what was usually a white family. However, Goodman believed that the days where a slave was owned and had no other option but to do hard labor for free just because of a document that sayed they was property of someone, where the better days. Goodman is basically saying that all the people who risked there life fought for nothing.

  1. Dear Melina, I like that the structure of your blog is very short and straight to the point. Your topic sentence is good it shows me what else is to come in your blog entry. I think you should add a little more context to what made Andrew Goodman's life so much better then other slaves. Your citations are good but you didn't unpack the quote, you just jumped right into the contradiction. If u was to explain the quote the contadiction would be more clear .
